HYDAC Diaphragm Accumulators
The HYDAC diaphragm accumulator is a hydraulic energy storage
device that utilizes the compressibility of a gas, specifically
nitrogen. This is necessary because hydraulic fluids are
practically incompressible, rendering them unable to store energy
on their own. The diaphragm serves as a barrier between the gas and
fluid sides of the accumulator.
When the pressure in the hydraulic circuit rises, the diaphragm
accumulator draws in fluid, which compresses the gas. As the
pressure decreases, the gas expands and returns the stored energy
to the circuit.
To prevent the diaphragm from being pushed out through the fluid
port, a poppet is integrated into the design.
HYDAC offers two types of diaphragm accumulators: welded, which
cannot be repaired, and threaded, which can be repaired.
These accumulators have been successfully utilized in both
industrial and mobile applications for various purposes, including
energy storage, pressure maintenance, leakage compensation, and
vehicle hydraulic systems (e.g. brakes and suspension).
